Have you watched Cemetary Junction? The bit when one of the working class lads is leaving home & his dad gives him money instead of a hug. Reminded me so much of my dad . I lived overseas for many years. Each time I phoned home and spoke to him it was how's work, are you taking proper care of yourself, are you okay for money. He never said it but I knew that was his way of saying I miss you.

This is so true. I got knocked off my motorbike once - luckily not injured. Next time I saw my granddad he said, “I thought you were a gymnast? Why didn’t you see him coming, do a somersault and land on your feet?”

Absolutely agree about Supernatural. Everybody should watch it. Especially those whose responses to Gervais indicate only nauseating virtue signalling, defence of incomes and pensions and the most hideous intellectual cowardice I have ever witnessed.

I couldn’t watch After Life because when it came out I was still in the phase of terminal illness that made it difficult for me to watch certain stuff. Maybe I will be more able to return to it now that oncologists have handed me over to palliative care and I am a little more circumspect about my imminent demise. We’ll see.

Derek I watched several times. It is a work of genius!

Gervais’ genius has always managed to expose the hypocrisies of those who would deny the ordinary absurdities of everyday life, which he does with fruity language that we all know is used commonly but which is frowned upon by the people who are most firmly in his sights anyway.

I am going to watch Supernatural again now :-)

Sorry to hear that Duncan. I remember having to explain my likely prognosis with my ten year old. We went for a walk beside a canal and he said he felt guilty for not feeling as upset as he should do. I remember telling him not to meet trouble half way and you feel what you feel. Then some jerk accosted me to ask me to smile! I had to refrain from punching him. Though he was built like a brick shithouse so I didn’t have to fight the urge too much. 😂.

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you.

And thank you too for your tireless efforts to debunk the ideology of gender. When I first encountered its parent ideology, identity politics, more than five years ago now, I did not believe that the famed peer adjudication processes of academia would give it more than a couple of months! After all, it rests on so many dubious assumptions and has no basis in material reality, not to mention working class experience. And yet ... here we are wasting intellectual effort jamming and deconstructing it. At least now we can also thank Ricky Gervais for helping us laugh about it :-)

Funny how an injection of super funding from pharma and clever strategies to capture the most important institutions of society (cops, judiciary, academia, “progressive” political parties - in particular the SNP) has managed to turn it round.

Sometimes I feel that the tide may be turning. I really hope so because there is so much more interesting and politically necessary stuff to be taken to task by the fascinating and powerful capacities of the human mind.

Best wishes to you and all your readers :-)
