“Christine” Burns dedicated his book to the controversial charity Mermaids.
This is part 6 of my series on this book. This is the one on controversial, charity Mermaids.
It open with an interview with the predecessor to Susie Green, the current CEO of Mermaids. Using an alias “Margaret Griffiths” describes “transitioning” her “notably effeminate” son. Margaret seems quite proud of the fact her son was one of the earliest to have his puberty blocked.
Griffiths also describes the effects of puberty blockers as “reversible” and simply allowing for a “pause” to give time for reflection. We now know this isn’t true and, moreover, 98% progress to cross sex hormones and will be sterile and unlikely to have full sexual function. As described by Marci Bowers, a trans-identified male as well as a surgeon who performs “transgender”surgeries. At the time he made this statement Bowers was President Elect of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (W.P.A.T.H).
As she is in her seventies and describes delaying children until she was in her thirties, her offspring given the name “Lisa” will now be in his forties. The story follows a common path. Effeminate son, bullied at school, mum with a lot of time on her hands decides he is “trans” and suddenly her life takes on a new purpose. Unlike Susie Green she makes no overt statements from which we can conclude she feared she had a gay son on her hands. This is a quote from Susie Green’s ted talk.
You can watch this in full here:
You can also watch a clip of Green laughing, with her mum at her son’s underdeveloped penis.

Griffiths make some interesting observations about the relationship of Mermaids to the Tavistock, the main gender clinic in the U.K; describing it as one of mutual dependence.
Another surprising connection was with the musician Pete Burns. Burns died at 57 having undertaken numerous surgeries on his face with disastrous consequences for his health. Burns is named as one of the financial backers of Mermaids. His own comment on his path to surgery illustrates the shared mindset.
You can read the series on Trans Britain here. This book has proved useful in mapping the activism across the U.K and the extent of the influence weirded by this tiny, marginalised, minority.
There is so much here, StillTish! Brava! I always have to note the erasure of the wives. (like myself, ex-wife of a man who currently identifies himself, at the age of 67, as the mother of our grown sons)
Ray Blanchard and his ilk operated on the premise that any male who wants to identify out of his sex must be a special and sensitive person, as this is to "join" an oppressed class. I only went to one appointment with my then husband's indoctrinating groomer, listened to her speech about "alternative sex play" so that I could tell her, "No, not for me." I could not endure more of that, but now wish I had, and with a hidden tape recorder.
Meanwhile, the business with children is all hooey. I taught several children who desisted after a few weeks of being ignored in their requests to use the wrong bathroom. Below, link to Dr. Stephen B. Levine's testimony on his decision to speak out against "transition" after writing decades of letters to surgeons for his cross-sex ideating patients. The one who detransitioned after 30 years apparently woke him up. Thanks for all you do. Ute Heggen
